Hi Natalie,
In your essay you state that “Margie” is possibly one of Walter’s girlfriends that just never appears in the movie. I got the impression that “Margie” was just a name Keyes assigned to Phyllis when Walter would talk to her because Walter never tells Keyes that he is talking to Phyllis on the phone. That is, “Margie” is just a name given to Phyllis by Keyes but “Margie” is not an actual separate character in the movie that just never appears. You know what I mean?
I enjoyed reading your essay and I agree that Phyllis was “driven by feeling and instinct” rather than by morality. Both Walter and Phyllis tried to be happy in all the wrong ways.

Hi Brooklen,
I agree that Phyllis and Walter “valued the wrong type of happiness.” They tried to make themselves happy by killing and manipulating but they ultimately failed. Even if they had gotten away with their crime, I still think they would have been unhappy because, like you said, of the unethical way in which they tried to attain their desires. Their conscience would have eventually gotten the best of them.

Hi Kaidaha,
I agree that suicide shouldn’t be an option. There are times when our actions seem monotonous but we should seek to find meaning in our actions and in our daily tasks.
